Denver Five Points Shooting: Kaylen Stroter Charged with First-Degree Murder in Five Points Incident
Authorities in Denver have charged Kaylen Stroter, 22, with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting in the city’s Five Points neighborhood.
The incident occurred Thursday in the 1100 block of 32nd Street near Curtis Park, where police responded to reports of an assault shortly before 1 p.m. Multiple 911 callers described a chaotic scene, including a woman screaming and a man reportedly armed with a firearm. Some witnesses indicated the suspect may have “shot someone random.”
When officers arrived, they located the victim on a residential lawn suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Using surveillance footage and witness accounts, officers identified and detained Stroter near basketball courts in Curtis Park. A handgun was later recovered nearby, according to the probable cause statement.
Investigators say video evidence shows a violent altercation involving a woman, during which a bystander attempted to intervene. The situation escalated, with the suspect allegedly retrieving a second firearm and firing toward a vehicle as the woman fled. Authorities believe the fatal shooting may not have been directly tied to the initial altercation, raising concerns that the victim may have been randomly targeted.
The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors review evidence, including witness testimony, surveillance footage, and forensic findings. Additional charges may be considered.
